Title: Badruu el Hombre.

Based on: Francisco el hombre, a Colombian legend who inspired the Vallenato Festival.

Many years ago, two merchant brothers from a village beyond Bahari in the distant mountains arrived in a provincial town on the outskirts of Bahari, with the intention of opening a store selling products from their culture and region. They soon became prosperous businessmen and respected neighbors. Every afternoon, one of them would play a traditional instrument from their homeland in front of the store, attracting curious passersby and customers with melodies that evoked their native land. Among the frequent visitors was a young man in his twenties named Badruu, with a deep gaze and shy character, who listened with fascination to those foreign melodies. After several weeks, the foreigners took a liking to him and invited him to help them in the store. Over time, one of the brothers noticed the almost hypnotic attention with which Badruu observed his laud, so one night he decided to let him play it. To everyone’s surprise, the boy played the instrument with natural skill, improvising new rhythms full of nostalgia and joy. From then on, the evenings were filled with a musical dialogue between the new sounds from abroad and the provincial tunes of Badruu, whom they affectionately nicknamed “The Man.” The store prospered even more, becoming a gathering place and party venue. The years passed, the brothers grew old, and decided to close the business. One returned to his homeland and the other decided to settle in a nearby village with his wife. Before leaving, the musician gave Badruu the lute, a symbol of friendship and destiny. With it, the young man began to travel around the villages of the province, spreading news and enlivening parties with his music. His fame grew, and his spontaneous talent made him a legend.

One day, while traveling by donkey to his homeland, Badruu spotted a rider approaching quickly in the distance. He was a robust man with a fiery gaze and elegant bearing, who also carried a lute. The stranger challenged him to prove who was the best musician in the region. Badruu accepted, and under a cañaguate tree he began to play a tune that transformed into a paseo, merengue, and puya, dazzling with his mastery. The challenger responded with the same melody, but backwards, reversing the rhythms in a performance that made the atmosphere dark and threatening. The man’s eyes glowed like burning coals: Badruu then realized that he was facing the devil. Without letting fear overcome him, he picked up his laud again and, as he played, began to recite the Creed backwards. Verse after verse, the sky cleared and the light returned. Faced with the strength of his faith and his music, the devil, his horse, and his lute dissolved into a whirlwind of ashes and sulfur. Since then, it is said that Badruu El Hombre, the musician town crier of Kilima, not only defeated the devil with his accordion, but also turned his music into an immortal legend.
